The Western World Insurance Group of companies, with its office in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, is primarily composed of three operating insurance companies: Western World Insurance Company, and two insurance subsidiaries, Tudor Insurance Company and Stratford Insurance Company, all domiciled in New Hampshire. The Group offers commercial insurance products on a surplus lines and specialty admitted basis through appointed wholesale agents and brokers on a nationwide basis. Product offerings include Commercial General Liability, Professional Liability, Product Liability and Commercial Auto coverages. Western World specializes in underwriting classes of business that are not easily placed in the standard insurance market due to their complexity, high hazard, or unusual nature. The Group also offers underwriting facilities for Associations and Affinity Groups through Westco Programs. A.M. Best has awarded Western World Insurance Group a rating of A+ (Superior) Financial Size Category IX and an Issuer Credit Rating of aa- (Superior) (May 2008)*. In 2008, the Group had Written Premium of $217 million and achieved a significant financial milestone with Policyholders' Surplus of $310 million. John D. Curry curry@penn-america.com is vice president of Marketing and Agency Operations of Penn-America Insurance Company and its subsidiaries Penn-Star Insurance Company and Penn-Patriot Insurance Company. He joined Penn-America in April of 2002. He is responsible for underwriting policy, pricing policy and management of the managing general agents. Curry's insurance career spans more than 25 years beginning with Western World Insurance Group, where he held several underwriting and management positions in the company's two primary companies, Western World and Tudor Insurance Company. In 1986, he joined the Jefferson Insurance Group and in 1994 left to join the Investors Insurance Group for a year, before joining Constitution Reinsurance Corporation. At Constitution, and later Gerling Global Re, which acquired CRC, he underwrote alternative risk program reinsurance business. Curry also started and managed two primary program insurance companies for the Group, Sirius America Insurance Company and Constitution Insurance Company. Curry holds a B.S. degree in Political Science from St. Francis of Loretto University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
