Lilian Yengi graduated from Keele University (UK) with a BSc (Joint Honors) in Biochemistry and Biology followed by Leeds University (UK) where she obtained a Masters degree in Clinical Biochemistry. She then continued her studies at Staffordshire University, where she pursued a Ph.D. program in Molecular Biology, with Professor RC Strange as adviser. As part of this program, she studied the influence of genetic polymorphisms o n disease susceptibility, with particular reference to cancer and inflammatory mediated diseases. She was involved in the identification of novel polymorphisms that, in combination with environmental factors, either conferred protection or increased an individual's susceptibility to certain cancers such as cervical and skin cancers. After a 2-year postgraduate fellowship with Professor Roland Wolf at the Biomedical Research Center, Dundee University (Scotland), she joined Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in 2000, where she currently works in the Drug Safety and Metabolism Department. She heads a group mandated with identifying and developing novel molecular-based technologies and applying these in an issue driven manner to support the progression of new molecular entities into the drug development track. She has several peer-reviewed publications in her field and is a member of the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics (ISSX).
