Prior to founding SCF, Simmons cofounded Simmons & Company International, where he was a partner between 1974 and 1989. Before that, he was a corporate finance officer at The First National Bank of Chicago. He is chairman of the board of Oil States International., and serves on the boards of Express Jet and Simmons Media Group. He is also on the board and is former chairman of Texas Children's Hospital, a trustee of Rice University and chairman of the Council of Overseers of its Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management, a trustee of The Gordon and Mary Cain Pediatric Neurology Research Foundation, and is on the board of the Houston Endowment, the Harvard Business School Visiting Committee, and the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Simmons received a B.S. from the University of Utah and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.

Cash has been on the Zions Bancorporation board of directors since 1989. He was Questar Corporation's chief executive officer from 1984 to 2002 and was chairman of the board from 1985 to 2003. Cash was also president of Questar from 1984 to 2001. He has been a director of Questar since 1977 and also serves on the boards of National Fuel Gas Company, TODCO, Associated Electric and Gas Insurance Services Limited, and Texas Tech Foundation, Inc., and is a former director of Zions First National Bank, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco (Salt Lake City branch), and Energen Corporation. Cash received a B.S. from Texas Tech University.
